Book two of the trilogy
“Playing The Cards You’ve Been Dealt."
William St.John-Brown was born with the proverbial silver spoon in his mouth in 1820. He was sent off to boarding school at the tender age of seven, as was the practice in the wealthier circles of the day. This separation from his parents set off a detached personality in William that was to be carried down through the family generations. This attitude along with feelings of entitlement was also to become part of the family’s attitudes. William’s treatment of people, especially women and the working classes, made him vulnerable to strong willed women. One in particular, Madge Duggan fed his ego while ingratiating herself into the upper crust of society. While William’s affairs and trysts were of little or no meaning to him, they fed his ego to quickly became fodder for his downfall.
William’s son, Michael was doomed to follow his father’s precipitous lifestyle both in business in romance. As his father found strength in Madge, Michael was fortunate to become involved with a strong, clever, focused, mixed race woman, Melita, whose ethnic background was from the Mediteranean.
Melita provides love support and wisdom that guides Michael through his trials and tribulations while she never lost site of his foibles. Michael’s marriage to Lady Penelope Mowbray produces a daughter, Angela Rose. It is Angela Rose that bridges the gaps between the old Victorian world, the Industrial Revolution and modern experiences. Her marriage connects this wealthy family, one of England’s upper echelons, to the Cane Family who were of a class deemed to be less than acceptable to the St. John-Browns. Once again the sinking of the Titanic is to play a pivotal role in the direction this family.
Now the groundwork has been laid for the attitudes and actions of the characters to make sense in third book of the trilogy, Now Who’s The Joker.

This Trilogy is a must read!, August 11, 2013 This review is from: A Royal Flush: The concept of playing the cards you've been dealt, reacting to a situation based on your resources and training, is great in any book. It especially works well in a historical book, because people can't just rely on the internet or technology in general to solve everything for them. This book was really interesting from that perspective! |
